AEG Ale Beer Label Design Contest

Hutton & Smith.jpeg

It’s often said that geology is both an art and a science, and those that practice the art of geology are known for their appreciation of beer.  Well, now it’s time to put those two things together and show just how creative and artistic AEG Members and friends can be.  Chattanooga’s own Hutton & Smith Brewing will provide “AEG Ale” for the Annual Meeting – but we need YOUR help to design the label!  That's right; we're having a contest to determine who can design the most quintessential label, with the winning entry to be proudly displayed on every can of AEG Ale sold at the Annual Meeting.

Yes, there are some rules:

  1. The contest is open to AEG members and 2026 Meeting registrants (so if you’re not an AEG member, you need to be registered by July 15). Register Now

  2. We’re providing a (mostly) blank canvas.  You can change the color of the outside line, but all artwork needs to stay inside the line. Label Design Template and logo: Download here

  • Leave the UPC symbol as-is (and leave a reasonable margin around it).

  • Incorporate the 2026 meeting logo. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

  • And legally, the following things MUST go on the label somewhere:

  1. AEG Ale (the beer name)

  2. Session IPA (the beer style)

  3. 5.1% ABV

  4. Brewed and packaged by Hutton & Smith Brewing in Chattanooga, TN

  5. GOVERNMENT WARNING:  (1) According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects.  (2) Consumption of alcoholic beverages impairs your ability to drive a car or operate machinery and may cause health problems.

Submissions are due to heather@aegweb.org no later than July 15.  If the file is large, you can upload it to https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1VHt0lb3hyR1GR0hmQOo-mStV-S0G7jgw?usp=drive_link. A panel of Chattanooga Annual Meeting Committee members will pick the top three, which will be put back out for a vote by AEG Members and meeting registrants.

Pull out those colored pencils from field camp (or fire up your graphic design software) and show us what you’ve got!
